Tanoooki Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

Mindzai Productions Inc. ("Tanoooki," "we," "us") operates tanoooki.com and our related apps (the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It's part of our Terms of Use.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information you give us directly.

  • Account info: name, date of birth, username, email address, phone number.
  • Shipping and, for sellers, ship-from/return addresses.
  • Payment information — handled directly by Stripe; Tanoooki does not store your full card or bank details.
  • Listing content: photos, descriptions, pricing, and other content you post.
  • Communications: messages you send buyers, sellers, or our support team, and anything you submit through forms (like content-infringement reports).
  • Photos or images you upload to our item-identification (“scan”) tool.
  • Interests you select during onboarding, used to personalize your feed.

B. Information we collect automatically.

  • Device and connection data: IP address, browser type and version, device type, and the approximate country we infer from your IP. We do not collect precise GPS location.
  • Cookie and storage identifiers: the identifiers stored by the cookies described in Section 5, including analytics and advertising identifiers where you have consented to them.
  • How you arrived: the website that linked you to us, where your browser provides it, and any campaign parameters in the link you followed.
  • Activity on Tanoooki: listings you view, items you save or add to a cart, searches you run, filters you apply, and links you click. We use this to rank search results, recommend items, and improve the marketplace.
  • Log and diagnostic data generated by using the Services.
  • Listing and shop page view counts: when you open a listing or a seller's shop page, we record that a view happened so the seller can see how many people looked at their item or their shop. If you are signed in, we record your account. If you are not, we store a one-way code derived from your IP address and browser that changes every day, which we cannot reverse and which does not identify you. We use it only so the same visitor is not counted twice in a day, and we do not store the IP address itself for this purpose. We also record which website or app referred the visit — for example a search engine, social network or AI assistant — using only the site's name, never the page you came from.
  • Sign-in records: when you create an account or sign in, we record the IP address you connected from and your browser type, and link them to your account. Unlike view counts, this is your actual IP address, not a one-way code.

C. Information from third parties.

  • If you sign up or log in using a third-party account (e.g., an OAuth provider), we receive the basic profile information that service shares with us.
  • Payment and identity-verification signals from Stripe as part of onboarding you as a seller.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account, and let you buy and sell on Tanoooki.
  • Process orders, payments, and payouts (through Stripe).
  • Arrange shipping and customs documentation (through our shipping partners).
  • Power search, item identification, and price-lookup features.
  • Rank and personalize search results, recommendations and your feed, based on your stated interests and how you use the marketplace.
  • Communicate with you about your orders, account, and (where you've agreed) marketing and product updates.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, counterfeit listings, and violations of our Terms.
  • Comply with legal obligations, including tax and financial recordkeeping.
  • Give sellers basic statistics about their own listings and shop page, such as how many people viewed them and which websites or apps referred those visits.
  • Recognise when a new account belongs to someone we have previously suspended, and decline to create new accounts from a connection we have blocked for that reason.

3. Our Legal Bases for Using Your Information

Where data protection law requires us to have a legal basis for using your information, we rely on the following:

  • Performance of our contract with you — creating and running your account, and processing orders, payments, payouts and shipping.
  • Our legitimate interests — keeping the marketplace safe (detecting fraud, counterfeit listings, abuse and Terms violations), and making it useful (ranking search, recommending items, personalizing your feed). You can object to uses based on legitimate interests at any time.
  • Your consent — analytics and advertising cookies, and marketing email. You can withdraw consent at any time, and doing so is as easy as giving it.
  • Compliance with a legal obligation — tax, accounting and financial record keeping.
  • Recognize when a new account belongs to someone we have previously suspended, and decline to create new accounts from a connection we have blocked for that reason.

4. How We Share Information

With other users. When you complete a transaction, we share the information needed to complete it — for example, a seller sees the buyer's shipping name and address to fulfill an order; a buyer sees the seller's shop name and shipping origin. We don't share your full account details (like your email or phone number) with other users beyond what's needed for a transaction or in-platform messaging.

Listing and shop statistics. Sellers can see how many views their own listings and shop page received, and which websites or apps referred those visits. They do not see who viewed them, and we do not give them your IP address, your account details or the code described in Section 1.

With service providers. We share information with companies that help us run the Services, including:

  • Stripe — payment processing, seller payouts, and identity verification.
  • Cloud hosting and database providers — to store and run the Services.
  • Shipping and logistics partners — to generate labels and customs paperwork.
  • Email delivery providers — sending account, order, and security emails.
  • Subscription billing providers — managing PRO plan billing and entitlements.
  • Address autocomplete and location providers — to help you fill in shipping addresses and estimate shipping costs.
  • AI and search providers — powering item identification and search (see Section 7).
  • Analytics providers — to understand how the Services are used, only where you have consented to analytics cookies.
  • Advertising partners — to display advertising on the Services, only where you have consented to advertising cookies.

We may change which providers we use for these functions from time to time; this Policy describes the categories of sharing rather than naming every current vendor. These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to Tanoooki, not for their own independent purposes.

For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tanoooki, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If Tanoooki is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy (or a successor policy you're notified of).

Advertising, and your choices. We work with advertising partners who use cookies to show you ads based on your interests, including your activity on Tanoooki and on other websites. Under some privacy laws — including California's — this counts as “selling” or “sharing” your personal information, even though we receive no payment for the data itself.

You can opt out at any time. Decline advertising cookies when we ask, use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page to change your mind later, or use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option in that same preference centre. We also honour Global Privacy Control signals sent automatically by your browser. Opting out costs you nothing and does not change your access to the Services.

Where we know an account holder is under 18, we do not show them advertising based on profiling, whatever their cookie preferences. They see contextual advertising only.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies that store information in your browser rather than as cookies — these work the same way in practice, and this section covers both.

What we use them for:

  • Strictly necessary — keeping you signed in, remembering that you finished setting up your account, and letting Stripe protect payments against fraud. The Services do not work without these, and they are set whether or not you accept cookies.
  • Performance and functionality — remembering whether you chose English or Japanese, the listings you recently viewed, your recent searches, and any listing you are part-way through creating.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics, to understand how the Services are used overall. Only set if you accept.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense, to show ads matched to your interests and limit how often the same ad repeats. Only set if you accept.

Third parties who set cookies through our site: Stripe (payments and fraud prevention), Google Analytics (usage measurement) and Google AdSense (advertising). Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with that information.

How to control them. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary ones is set until you choose. You can change your answer at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page — withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and takes effect immediately.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though doing so may stop parts of the Services working. Browser settings alone will not remove information already stored on your device.

A full list of every cookie we use, including how long each one lasts, is in our Cookie Policy.

6. In-Platform Messaging

Tanoooki's chat feature lets buyers and sellers message each other — for example, to ask questions about a listing or coordinate shipping. As the platform operator, Tanoooki is able to access and review the content of these chats. We don't monitor chats routinely, but we may access chat history to:

  • Investigate a reported violation, flag, or dispute (such as abuse, harassment, fraud, or a claim under our Prohibited Items or Terms of Use policies).
  • Respond to a valid legal request, subpoena, or other requirement of law.
  • Protect the safety, rights, or property of Tanoooki, our users, or the public.

Because we retain access to chat content for these purposes, please don't use in-platform messaging to send anything you wouldn't want reviewed under the circumstances above, and don't send sensitive personal information (like payment card numbers or government ID numbers) through chat.

7. AI-Assisted Features

Tanoooki uses AI tools to help identify items from photos you upload and to surface market pricing data. Images you submit for identification may be processed by our AI and search providers to generate a match; we don't use these images to identify or profile you personally. As noted in our Terms of Use, these tools can make mistakes, and results shouldn't be relied on as the sole basis for a decision.

8. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services. After you close your account, we may retain certain information where it's reasonably needed — for example, order and transaction records for legal, tax, or accounting purposes, to resolve disputes, or to maintain historical listing and pricing data as described in our Terms of Use. We'll delete or anonymize information we no longer need for these purposes.

We keep individual listing and shop page view records for up to 24 months, and after that we keep only the totals, which are not linked to any visitor.

We keep sign-in records (the IP address and browser type described in Section 1) for 90 days, and then delete them automatically.

9. International Data Transfers

Tanoooki is operated by Mindzai Productions Inc. in Ontario, Canada. Our databases and file storage are hosted in the United States, and several of our service providers — including our payment, hosting, search and AI providers — also process information in the United States.

The European Commission has determined that Canada provides an adequate level of protection for personal information handled by commercial organizations, so transfers from the European Economic Area to Tanoooki in Canada are permitted on that basis. Where information is transferred onward to the United States or elsewhere, we rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards approved under applicable law.

You can ask us for more detail about these safeguards using the contact details in Section 14.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your information, where we have no continuing need or legal obligation to keep it.
  • Restrict how we use your information while a concern is being resolved.
  • Object to uses based on our legitimate interests, including personalization.
  • Receive a portable copy of information you provided to us, in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on it — including cookies and marketing email.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in Section 14. We will respond within the time applicable law allows. Exercising these rights costs nothing, and we will not treat you differently for it.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to a regulator. In Canada, that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. In the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, it is the data protection authority for the country where you live.

Marketing emails. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails. You'll still receive essential account and transactional emails (like order confirmations and security notices) even if you opt out of marketing.

Account information. You can review and update most of your account information directly in your account settings.

11. Younger Users

You must be at least 13 years old to hold a Tanoooki account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

You must be at least 18 years old to sell on Tanoooki. This is a condition of the seller agreement you accept before listing, and our payments provider independently verifies the identity and age of every seller before they can be paid.

Where we know an account holder is under 18, we do not show them advertising based on profiling. See Section 4.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we'll notify you by email or in-app notice before they take effect.

14. Who's Responsible, and How to Reach Us

Privacy Officer. Chris Tsang is our designated Privacy Officer, responsible for our compliance with this Policy and with applicable privacy law.
