What’s covered
Loss, theft and damage that happen while your parcel is in transit with the carrier. *Porch Piracy coverage is only available on USPS, UPS, Canada Post services. Sub-limits apply. A police report may be required.
How much is covered
Your parcel is covered for the item price you paid, up to the maximum for the shipping service you chose (see the table above). If your order is worth more than that maximum, it’s covered up to the maximum and no further.
Sub-limits and additional conditions (USPS, UPS, Canada Post, Evri, DPD)
These apply to parcels insured through XCover, the insurer for USPS, UPS, Canada Post, Evri and DPD. Specific items or claim reasons are subject to a sub-limit, which means you’re only covered up to the amounts listed below. For any items not listed below, the maximum parcel value that can be protected is up to $10,000.
- Theft of a parcel after documented delivery to the delivery address: $1,000 per parcel.
- Parcels containing over $1,000 in trading cards or signed/autographed items must be sent through a delivery service that requires a physical signature and includes a tracking number.
- High-value items, such as items over $1,500 or jewelry and watches, must not have seller advertising visible on the outside of the packaging.
- Antiques: $1,000 per parcel.
- Artwork in the form of prints and posters: $1,000 per parcel.
- Parcels shipped from Canada: antiques, artwork and jewelry can’t be covered at all (see “Items that can’t be covered”).
Chit Chats services
Parcels sent with Chit Chats are insured through Chit Chats insurance, up to $800 on U.S. and Canada services and $300 on international services. Cover ends when the parcel is delivered, so porch theft and any other loss after delivery aren’t covered. Delays aren’t covered.
Price
The price is shown as its own line before you pay. It depends on the shipping service and your order’s value, and applies to each seller’s parcel separately.
Insurance is optional
Insurance is optional and not mandatory. Protection is on by default except in the UK, Europe and member countries of the EEA. You can switch it on or off in your cart or at checkout before you pay.
Making a claim
Report a problem from your order within 30 days of delivery, or of your estimated delivery date if it never arrives. If the carrier shows your parcel as delivered but you didn’t receive it, report it within 5 days of the delivery date shown by the carrier. You must include photos of any damage and of the outer packaging. Tanoooki will help you with the claim process with the insurer. Keep the item and all packaging until your case is closed.
Refunds
If your claim is accepted, you get a full refund of your order, including shipping and the protection fee. If your whole order is refunded for any other reason, the protection fee is refunded too.
Who provides the cover
Cover is provided by the shipping service’s insurer: XCover for services booked through Shippo, and Chit Chats Insurance for Chit Chats services. It’s subject to their terms, including their exclusions. Tanoooki holds the policy and handles claims.
Tanoooki Buyer Protection
Shipping Protection is in addition to Tanoooki Buyer Protection. While Tanoooki Buyer Protection helps protect you from a bad seller, it can’t protect against other things such as shipping, damages and pirates.
